Britain’s vote to leave the European Union in June 2016 has left many EU citizens currently living in the UK with a question mark over their future. Some believe that paperwork will help secure their fate – and are rushing to prove that they have a permanent right to stay in the UK. Permanent residency is a legal status granted automatically to EU nationals after five years of lawful residence in the UK. But those eligible can also apply for a residence certificate or document certifying permanent residency which serves as official proof. |
