MEPs in the frame to replace Martin Schulz

Following the announcement from Martin Schulz that we did not wish to seek for a third mandate as the president of the European Parliament, media reported on different names as potential candidates for the post.

In early January the three leading candidates were seen to be Antonio Tajani (EPP), Gianni Pittella (S&D) and Guy Verhoftstadt (ALDE).

The European Parliament was scheduled to vote on a new president on 17 January 2017.
