Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, met the Chilean Minister for Defence, Jaime Ravinet

Javier SOLANA, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), had a meeting yesterday with Jaime RAVINET, the Chilean defence minister.

At the meeting, Mr Solana thanked Mr Ravinet for Chile's participation in the EUFOR - Althea operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr Ravinet said Chile was pleased with the terms under which 25 soldiers were taking part in the operation and said Chilean armed forces were ready to show solidarity with the EU and participate in future EU-led missions.

On Haiti, Mr Solana and Mr Ravinet shared the view that the international community should maintain a long-term commitment in Haiti and provide sustainable economic support so as to ensure that Haiti did not revert to being a failing state as itwas before.
