Justice and Home Affairs Council, 8-9 March 2013

A meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council was held on 8-9 March 2013. The agenda includes the following topics:

+ Adoption of decision regarding the establishment, operation and use of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II);

+ Discussion on the full application of the provisions of the Schengen acquis in Bulgaria and Romania;

+ Presentation by the European Commission on the Smart Borders Package, launched in February;

+ Briefing on the security situation in the Sahel and Maghreb region and its implications for EU internal security;

+ Debate on the proposal for a regulation setting out a general EU framework for data protection;

+ Exchange of views on the proposal for a directive on the protection of the euro and other currencies against counterfeiting by criminal law;

+ Formal endorsement of the informal agreement on the regulation on mutual recognition of protection measures in civil matters upon request of the person at risk;

+ Adoption (without discussion) of a regulation providing that as a general rule only the Official Journal of the EU published in electronic form is authentic and produces legal effects.
