Background and further information: The European Union and India issued a Joint Summit Statement. Joint statements on combatting terrorism; on clean energy and climate change; and on smart and sustainable urbanisation were also adopted. Leaders took stock of the implementation of the comprehensive EU-India Agenda for Action 2020, endorsed at Summit held in March 2016. Leaders also noted the ongoing efforts of both sides to re-engage towards relaunching negotiations for an India-EU broad based trade and investment agreement (BTIA). The European Union was represented by the President of the European Council Donald Tusk and by the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. India was represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit marked the 55th anniversary since the establishment of EU-India diplomatic relations.The fourteenth summit between India and the European Union was held in New Delhi on 6 October 2017. |
