Summary:

Parliamentary elections were held in Slovenia on 3 June 2018. The results showed a victory for the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) without an overall majority in the Parliament, which would force the party to seek agreements with at least two other political forces.

Further information:

Slovenia's President announced he would offer SDS a mandate to form a government, following the release of the preliminary results. The party was in opposition before the poll and most other parties ruled out an agreement with the SDS due to what was perceived as 'extreme views' by the party leader, Janez Jansa.

According to The Guardian, analysts in Slovenia predicted long and tough post-election talks because nine parties made it to the Parliament. An anti-establishment force came second, the Social Democrats came third and the incumbent Modern Centre party came a distant fourth.
