Kosovo legislature approved creation of national army, 14 December 2018

Kosovo Parliament voted in favor of a set of laws that would allow their nation to create an army on 14 December 2018. The new law  plans to transform the existing Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into a regular professional army of 5,000.

Serbia is deeply opposed to the move, saying that it threatens peace in the region, while the United States said the move was 'only natural' for a 'sovereign, independent country'. NATO called the decision 'ill-timed' and said it went against the advice of the alliance. The UN also expressed concern about the move that could raise tensions in the area.
