Summary:

On 10 February 2004, the Commission adopted a proposal for the financial perspectives of the enlarged European Union of 27 Member States for the period 2007-2013. In this context, the Commission took the view that the Union’s intervention in a number of key policy fields required strengthening. In particular, the Commission decided that an ambitious cohesion policy should be an essential element of the financial package.
