General Affairs Council, 22 June 2021

Summary:

A meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) was held on 22 June 2021. The agenda included the following items:

• Briefing and exchange of views concerning all files related to the Enlargement and Stabilisation and Association process:
  • Discussion on the proposed Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III);
  • Exchange of views on the accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania;
  • Intergovernmental conference with Serbia and Montenegro, following up on the revised enlargement methodology agreed by the stakeholders;
• Briefing on the outcome of the Lisbon European citizens' event and of the first plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe;
• Preparation of the forthcoming European Council summit (24-25 June);
• Hearing on the rule of law in Poland, in the framework of the Article 7 (1) TEU procedure;
• Hearing on the rule of law in Hungary, in the framework of the Article 7 (1) TEU procedure;
• Briefing on the relations between Switzerland and the European Union (EU);
• Briefing on the concept of strategic autonomy;
• Briefing on the 10 year-anniversary of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
