Book abstract:

Where to start? That is the question most frequently asked by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) seeking EU funding as the vast number of doors to knock upon and often complicated application process can appear daunting and misleading, for example disability programmes are not found in the Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs but within the Information Society Directorate. Open access may be the watch word within the European Commission but with information so widely scattered tracking down the correct route to the money is fraught with difficulty. This guide aims to offer a focal point and an overview of funding opportunities and includes practical and clear information on such issues as the Vade-mecum on Grant Management, the new EU Structural funds regime, the EU budget for NGOs and reforms of the management of External Aid. This latest edition provides new information on structural funds, EuropeAid, the Cotonou Agreement and enlargement. Recognising the strategic approach now required for EU funding, the guide also includes a new chapter on securing co-funding from foundations and co-sponsors. The guide will be an essential tool for all those engaged in fund raising within the not-for-profit sector.
