A healthy CAP? The health check of the Common Agricultural Policy

Major changes to the EU Common Agricultural Policy were made in 2003. The agreement on the reform provided for a review in 2008, which has become known as the CAP ‘Health Check’. The European Commission published its proposals for the CAP Health Check on the 20 November 2007. This briefing describes the way the 2003 reforms were implemented in Scotland; outlines the European Commission's proposals for further changes, and looks forward to the next major review of the CAP, which is due to take place in 2012-13.
