The “Keymark” will be awarded to products which have passed a series of safety, performance and other tests. CENELEC says the replacement of national and sectoral marks by a European standard would help promote a unified single market. The initiative received mixed reviews from consumer groups, who warned the existence of two European symbols, the Keymark and the CE symbol, could cause confusion, while others welcomed it as a long-overdue guarantee of quality.
