The author, who is a member of the board of the European Central Bank, says that EMU has succeeded - even though political union remains incomplete. In the article he also rejects supranational solutions such as a social union to tackle unemployment. This latter point generated a critical reply from European Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou in a letter to the Financial Times. |
