A survey of Danish voters has suggested fear of closer political union was the main reason for the country’s vote to reject euro-zone membership last month, rather than concerns about the currency.

The poll found that 37% of those who voted against the euro did so because they were worried about closer union, with one in four stating that preserving Danish national identity was the most important issue.
