Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 7 October 2020, setting out a strategic framework aimed at supporting the Roma population in the European Union (EU) for the period 2020-2030. Further information: This Communication sets out a new EU Roma strategic framework, comprising seven key areas of focus: equality, inclusion, participation, education, employment, health and housing. The Commission established new targets and recommendations for Member States on how to achieve them, and both are to become important tools to monitor progress. The new framework builds upon the previous EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies for the period 2011-2020. It draws on the findings from the evaluation of the previous framework, consultations, annual assessments of the implementation of national strategies and analysis of the reasons for the limited effectiveness of past measures. It also complements the EU anti-racism action plan 2020-2025. The Communication was published alongside a proposal for a Council Recommendation on Roma equality, inclusion and participation. |
