A united front to beat COVID-19

Summary:

Communication published by the European Commission on 19 January 2021, setting out a number of actions needed to step up the fight against the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

This Communication builds on experience acquired over preceding weeks and on the latest scientific advice, and it sets out decisions and the approach required to deliver on a set of priorities to address the pandemic:

• Speed up vaccination and vaccine supplies;
• Ramp up testing and sequencing to control infections and new variants;
• Ensure the functioning of the Single Market;
• Show international leadership and solidarity with partners.

It aimed to provide an input to a discussion held by the European Council on 21 January 2021. It also follows up on a previously published Communication addressing the pandemic during winter.
