Accession countries may bear brunt of organised crime in enlarged EU

The addition on 1 May 2004 of 10 countries to the European Union - most of them former communist states - has fuelled fears that enlargement will allow the mafias of central and eastern Europe to tighten their grip on organised crime across the continent.
