The Communication sets out a roadmap to boost the role of finance in achieving a well-performing economy that delivers on environmental and social goals as well. The Action Plan on Sustainable Finance is part of the Capital Markets Union's (CMU) efforts to connect finance with the specific needs of the European economy to the benefit of the planet and our society. It is also one of the key steps towards implementing the Paris Agreement and the EU's agenda for sustainable development.
The Action Plan follows up on the recommendations set out by the final report of the High-Level Group (HLEG) on sustainble finance. It presented eight priority actions, which it considered to be the necessary building blocks for any meaningful action regarding sustainable finance.
A High-Level conference on sustainable finance held on 22 March 2018 would be an opportunity to discussion this Action Plan.
The European Commission unveiled on 8 March 2018 its strategy for a financial system that supports the EU's climate and sustainable development agenda.
