Addressing Europe’s employment crisis: what policies for recovery and reform?

Unemployment in the EU is forecast to soar above 10% in 2010, while recovery is projected to be fragile for a number of years. European policy-makers are facing a tall order with an employment crisis and substantially deteriorated public finances. In the run-up to extraordinary summit on Growth and Jobs on 11 February 2010, this timely Policy Brief by Policy Analyst Sotiria Theodoropoulou considers the possible options for moving ahead. She argues that coordination across labour market and macroeconomic policies will be crucial in order to face both the short- and long-term challenges in Europe.
