These programmes complement efforts of the European Union to protect migrants and provide them with sustainable reintegration options in Libya, along the Central Mediterranean Route and in Ethiopia.

They directly followed up on the commitments made by the Joint Task Force comprising the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) to adress the migrant situation in Libya.

Background information:

The EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa was established in 2015 in order to address the root causes of irregular migration and forced displacement.

The European Union (EU) adopted on 26 February 2018 a set of three new programmes worth over €150 million under the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa.

+ Support to migrants in Libya
+ Improving the assistance provided to vulnerable migrants in the Sahel region
+ Support to sustainable reintegration for Ethiopian citizens
