Afghanistan: Europe’s credibility test

Afghanistan represents a pivotal test for Europe’s hopes of crafting a strong new strategic partnership with the US and for the EU’s credibility as a global security actor. This Policy Brief by Shada Islam and Eva Gross argues that the Union needs to put both Afghanistan and Pakistan higher up its political agenda; coordinate and consolidate Europe’s different programmes, policies and representations; and take immediate action to ensure the success of its hitherto less-than-impressive EUPOL police mission.
