After weeks of silence over the recent massacres in Algeria

the Union declared it was “deeply shocked at the wave of killings and other atrocities” and reiterated “its encouragement for the political and economic reform process in Algeria”. EU governments also expressed the hope that “the local elections due to be held on 23 October can build a democratic society free from violence”.
