Agriculture and Fisheries Council, 14-15 November 2016

Summary:

A meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) was held on 14-15 November 2016. The agenda included the following items:

• Adoption of political agreement concerning the proposed fishing opportunities for deep sea stocks for 2017-2018;
• Exchange of views on the proposed multi-annual management plan for demersal stocks in the North Sea;
• Discussion on a number of other topics, including organic production, animal welfare, lumpy skin disease, endocrine disruptors, antimicrobial resistance and, as regards fisheries, the implementation of the landing obligation and the issue of fisheries choke and the completion of action plans for EMFF specific ex-ante conditionalities;
• Briefing by the European Commission of the results of the work of the agricultural markets task force and its final recommendations;
• Presentation by the European Commission of the result of a study on the cumulative effects of concessions made in the context of FTAs on the EU agricultural sector;
• Discussion on the role of research and innovation for sustainable agriculture.
