Agriculture and Fisheries Council, 17 May 2016

A meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council was held on 17 May 2016 in Brussels. The agenda included the following items:

+ Discussion on animal welfare, focusing on the results of a Eurobarometer survey on animal welfare and on the establishment of the EU platform on animal welfare;

+ Exchange of views on the relation between agriculture and the climate, following the outcome of the Paris climate conference (COP21) in December 2015;

+ Update on the market situation and the implementation of the measures previously agreed by the EU insitutitions;

+ Update by the European Commission on relevant activities carried out, in particular the simplification of direct payments and of the common market organisation (CMO) regulation;

+ Information on the impact of the National Emission Ceilings (NEC) directive on the agricultural sector and on TTIP's 13th round of negotiations.
