Article reports that Air France-KLM won assurances from a senior French minister in June 2011 that it would be allowed to make its own 'independent' choice about whether to spend tens of billions of dollars buying new passenger jets from Airbus or Boeing.

The Franco-Dutch airline had come under increasing pressure from French lawmakers, and at least one minister, to place an entire order for 100 new long-range aircraft – one of the biggest anticipated purchases in the industry – with Europe’s Airbus rather than Boeing of the US.
