America, Britain and Europe: An Evolving Relationship

This is a transcript of the 2011 John C Whitehead Lecture, delivered by Sir John Major, UK Prime Minister (1990-97) on 10 November at Chatham House.

The speaker discussed the Anglo-American relationship, arguing that the UK should sometimes strike an independent stance from the US, especially on policy in the Middle East. He also stressed that economic management in the eurozone is a 'damaging area of friction' between Europe and the US that could get worse.
