The European Ombudsman published in July 2003 the annual report covering the activities of his office for the year 2002.

In 2002, a Eurobarometer opinion poll was carried out to see how well European citizens know their rights. The best known right was the right to work in another Member State closely followed by the right to complain to the European
Ombudsman – 87% of European citizens correctly believe that they have this right.

2002 signals the last year of office of Jacob Söderman as European Ombudsman.
