Further information:

The Eurogroup President opened the call for submission of nominations on 21 January 2019. The call closed on 30 January and one nomination was received on behalf of Philip Lane, Ireland's Central Bank Governor.

The Eurogroup discussed the nomination on 11 February and a formal Recommendation was adopted by the Council of the European Union on the next day. The ECB's Governing Council adopted an Opinion on the appointment on 6 March and the European Parliament endorsed it on 14 March.
