Maroš Šefčovič is a Slovak diplomat and politician. ​​​​​​​He has been a European Commissioner since 2009, becoming one of a set of individuals to be transferred from the previous European Commission. Mr Šefčovič was formally announced on 9 September 2019 by the President of the European Commission. His portfolio was known on the following day, set to take on the role as Commission's Vice President for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight. His hearing at the European Parliament was held on 30 September, which resulted in a formal endorsement of the candidate by the relevant committees.
