The Environmental Audit Committee of the United Kingdom's House of Commons announced on 19 October 2015 its intention to hold an inquiry to assess the extent to which environmental objectives and policies of the European Union had succeeded in tackling environmental issues in the country.

This inquiry aimed at informing the debate of the referendum on EU membership that the Government committed to holding by the end of 2017, following a renegotiation of the UK’s terms of membership.
