This report considers two recent European Commission proposals for changes in the Common European Asylum System. Both will apply to the United Kingdom only if the Government decides to opt in. The Committee urged the Government to opt in to the proposed second-phase Qualification Directive. It also welcomed the proposal for a revised Asylum Procedures Directive, and urged the Government to opt in to it.
