Austrian former MEP risks 10 years’ jail

On 9 August 2012 special prosecutors in Vienna charged Ernst Strasser, former Austrian euro-deputy and interior minister, with corruption.

Mr Strasser was one of three members of the European Parliament caught while taking a bribe to influence legislation at the European Parliament in March 2011. He denied all of the accusations.

The trial began on the 26 November 2012.

Mr Stasser was sentenced to a four-year prison term on the 14 January 2013.
