Summary:

Own-Initiative report tabled for plenary in December 2018 by Wim van de Camp by the European Parliament's committee on Transport and Tourism relating to autonomous driving in European transport.

Further information:

The report urges the European Commission to propose initiatives promoting the skills, education and training needed to keep the European Union at the forefront of the autonomous transport sector. It recommends that research and innovation programmes are continued and extended for all modes of transport in the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027. It also calls for the establishment of a Joint Undertaking along the same lines as Shift2Rail for rail transport and CleanSky for the aeronautics industry, so as to create an industry-driven strategic initiative on autonomous transport.

The report was adopted by the relevant parliamentary committee on 22 November 2018 and later approved by the plenary session of the European Parliament on 15 January 2019.
