BA still hopes to conclude Iberia deal

British Airways has a chance of finalising its proposed merger with Iberia before the end of 2009 and is also keen to make an offer for BMI, Willie Walsh, BA’s chief executive, said on the 30 September 2009.

Mr Walsh said talks with Iberia to form Europe’s third-largest airline, first announced in July 2008, had gone on too long but progress was being made and a deal by the year’s end was possible 'with a fair wind'.
