Barroso stays silent to avoid rocking French treaty vote

The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, is avoiding saying anything that might upset French President Jacques Chirac's efforts to achieve a Yes vote in the French referendum on the European Constitution on 29 May 2005.
