Media reports announced in November 2016 that following years of negotiations, Belgium had agreed to cede 14 hecatres of land to the Netherlands and receive three in return.

Negotiations to correct the border following the rise of the Meuse's riverbed started in the 1980s, but did not make headway until they became subject of diplomatic efforts in 2012. The agreement was brokered in June and signed on 28 November.
