Date: 21/02/02 EUROPEAN Commission enterprise chief Erkki Liikanen and UK minister for small business Nigel Griffiths have launched a pre-Barcelona bid to make sure the 'little guys' are not ignored when EU leaders re-examine the reforms to the Union's economy which were begun in Lisbon two years ago. The two issued a joint statement calling for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be put on an equal footing with big business across Europe. They said boosting the business environment for small firms could help create 20 million EU jobs by 2010 and boost income by €8,000 a head.
