Blair makes pledge to lead fight on liberalising EU energy

The European Commission is said to welcome an intervention from the UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in the battle for European Union energy liberalisation. Mr Blair has told the Danish Presidency of the European Union that he will take the lead in gathering support for liberalisation among the EU's smaller Member States. The merger of Eon and Ruhrgas, and the expansion of Electricité de France (EdF) has made the matter more urgent.
