The right-wing opposition’s stunning victory, and centrist governing party’s equally comprehensive defeat, in Poland’s parliamentary election in October 2015 was caused by widespread disillusionment with the country’s ruling elite. The election results herald major changes on the political scene including: a leadership challenge in the outgoing ruling party, the emergence of new ‘anti-system’ and liberal political forces in parliament, and a period of soul searching for the marginalised Polish left.
