This study on the Blue Growth potential in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea is one of six sea-basin studies commissioned by DG MARE.

The aim of the study is to examine in closer detail the individual development patterns of the maritime industries within the EU Member States and the EU candidate and potential candidate countries, and outline their prospects for future development.

Within the framework of the present study, we have evaluated the state of play and growth potential of twelve countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, as well as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey bordering the Mediterranean* and the Black Sea.

Some of these countries border several sea-basins (or sub-sea basins), such as Italy, Greece and Turkey. An effort to differentiate between the sea-basins and the sub-sea basins is made. In this sense, the country reports describe the maritime economic activities primarily at a country level, but also breakdown at regional level is available in the respective annexes.
