The UK Home Secretary, David Blunkett, was expected to announce on 23 February 2004, new measures to deter 'benefit tourists' from the former communist countries due to join the European Union in May 2004. In a separate move, the UK is to send immigration officials to Belgium to try and prevent illegal immigrants reaching the UK through the Channel Tunnel. |
