Background information:

The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the Office were established by Regulation (EC) No 1211/2009. It is based in Riga, Latvia.

BEREC was created to replace the European Regulators Group (ERG), through which national regulatory authorities (NRAs) exchanged expertise and best practice and gave opinions on the functioning of the EU telecoms market. BEREC helps the European Commission and NRAs implement EU regulations on electronic communications. It is made up of a Board composed of the heads of the 27 NRAs and is assisted by an Office.
