Article reports that at least 19 people were killed on the 17 August 2009 when a truck loaded with explosives blew up outside a police station in Russia’s troubled region of Ingushetia in the north Caucasus. The attack comes amid a surge of violence in the mainly Muslim regions of Ingushetia, Dagestan and Chechnya that the Kremlin has blamed on Islamist insurgents. But on the 17 August 2009 Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the President of Ingushetia, suggested that the west could also be meddling in the north Caucasus to undermine Russia’s revival as a great power. |
