The international peace supervisor and European Union envoy to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, overruled on the 28 March 2011 a controversial decision by local election commissioners, in the hope of helping to end the country’s political paralysis.

But his intervention, coming amid one of the Balkan country’s worst political crises in a decade, also threatened to inflame tensions between Croats and Bosniaks – Bosnian Muslims
