‘Global Britain’ became a rallying cry for those in the United Kingdom who wanted to see the UK stride confidently into a post-Brexit future.

Opponents of Brexit said that this perspective ignored the damage being done to the UK’s national interests by leaving the European Union.

This reading list drew together a wide range of material on this topic.

The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs gave a lecture Global Britain: UK Foreign Policy in the Era of Brexit at Chatham House on the 2 December 2016. He argued that after the vote to leave the EU in June 2016, Britain had the chance to define and establish a new forward-looking approach to its foreign policy. He set out a vision of Britain’s role in the world, the challenges policy-makers faced and the contribution the UK couldnow make to global security and prosperity.
