Commentary feature in which the author writes that the 2010 sovereign debt crisis in the eurozone and the 2011 Franco-German plan to create a European economic government are widely seen as final proof of the United Kingdom's wisdom in not joing the single currency.

However, the author disagrees with this view. Since the financial crash, Germany and France have fared better in the single currency than has Britain outside, although he concedes that the case that the UK would have been better off in the euro is not conclusive.
