Brown sees financial services reform as best way to shake up EU economies

The UK Chancellor, Gordon Brown, is pinning his hopes on the European Council economic summit in Barcelona in March 2002 to boost trade. The Chancellor believes that financial services liberalisation is the best way to drive forward European Union economic reform and Britain is confident that the Spanish presidency of the EU, which begins in January 2002, will help advance the economic reform agenda.
