Brussels plan for common loan rules

The European Commission is to publish proposals in July 2002 to harmonise rules in the €370bn-a-year market for personal loans in an effort to protect consumers and foster cross-border competition among lenders. The Commission hopes that uniform rules and protection across Member States will promote cross-border lending.
