European Union antitrust regulators are investigating Hollywood studios and European pay-television companies over the sale of TV rights to films. It is believed that seven Hollywood film studios have been asked to explain the television distribution contracts for their films. The European Commission appears to be concerned that the contracts might stifle competition between studios. The inquiry could lead to changes in the way Hollywood sells TV rights to EU broadcasters.
