Brussels rejects Brown plan for protectionism taskforce

Report from an informal meeting of EU Economic and Finance Ministers, Vienna, 7-89 April 2006. A UK proposal from George Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to set up a task force to help prise open Europe's most protected economic sectors was rejected by Brussels as pointless and bureaucratic - and undermining the European Commission.
